With reports of new ships being built coming out seemingly every week, there’s no doubt that the cruise industry is booming – so much so that 2015 had the highest number of ocean cruise passengers ever.

Cruise Lines International Association (CLIA) reports that 23.3 million people sailed the high seas last year.

Asia had the most growth, with the number of cruisers there jumping to 24 percent, to around two million people. Also seeing a big hike is Australia, New Zealand, and surrounding areas in the South Pacific. There, numbers rose by 14 percent to 1.1 million.

CLIA estimates that 2016 will even beat 2015 in terms of total cruisers, predicting that there will be 24.2 million people taking a cruise this year.
