It’s the end of an era for the train industry.

Amtrak will retire the AEM-7 electric locomotives after 37 years of service. The trains have transported passengers between Washington, DC, Philadelphia, Boston, Harrisburg, and New York – logging more than 220 million miles.

The company will host a public sendoff on June 18 with a special trip aboard the AEM-7, departing at 9:10 a.m. at Washington Union Station and traveling to Philadelphia. From the City of Brotherly Love, it will reverse course to visit and tour Delaware’s Wilmington Shops before going to the nation’s capital.

Tickets are $155 for adults and are half-price for children ages 2-12 when buying adult fares. The price includes a box lunch, souvenir pin, photo opportunities, and the tour.
