New York State is implementing a new law that bans the advertisement of short-term rental units through “any form of communication” – including mail, magazines, newspapers, text messages, websites, TV, and radio.

The bill states promoting the “use of dwelling units in a Class A multiple dwelling for other than permanent residence purposes” is prohibited.

First-time offenders will get hit with up to a $1,000 fine, while a second offense will cost as much as $5,000. Subsequent violations cost $7,500.
