States that are completely non-compliant or not fully compliant with the Real ID Act have until Jan. 22, 2018 to meet all the law’s requirements.
New York was deemed as completely non-compliant, meaning many New Yorkers would be unable to use their state-issued driver’s licenses or non-driver’s licenses to board domestic flights.
By the deadline, you’ll have to get a new Real ID or use another form of secure identification – like a U.S. passport or passport card, permanent resident card, or U.S. Military ID, among other approved documents.
