What’s new in the world of Disney? Here’s a roundup of the latest happenings at Walt Disney World and beyond.

Much to the pleasure of many Disney fans, selfie sticks are now banned at all of Mickey’s parks around the globe. Guests who show up at the gates with the devices are allowed to return it to their car or hotel, or they can leave them at the front of the park and retrieve them upon exiting. Previously, selfie sticks were just banned from being whipped out on rides, but a string of recent incidents involving the contraptions precipitated the full ban.

The landscape of Downtown Disney – soon to be Disney Springs – is ever changing, and now the plug is being pulled on DisneyQuest, an indoor entertainment facility. There have been rumors swirling for quite a while that it would get the heave-ho, mostly due to its outdated technology. The five-story building will find new life as the location for the NBA Experience.

One of Disney’s Hollywood Studios’ original attractions, The Magic of Disney Animation, will close July 12. In the park’s early years, guests could get a glimpse at animators hard at work. It’s also where guests could get a lesson in animation from the experts, and even take their creation home. This is the latest closing in a string of changes at the resort’s third theme park, following the shuttering of the Studio Backlot Tour and the American Idol Experience, and the removal of the Sorcerer’s Hat.
