A guaranteed way to get through the airport security screening area is to join TSA PreCheck.
The expedited security screening program is available at more than 150 airports nationwide, and members do not have to take off their shoes or remove liquids, belts, or jackets at checkpoints. An $85 processing fee is associated with the five-year membership.
To enroll, applicants must first fill out an online form and make an appointment to take their fingerprints at a local enrollment center; you’ll have to bring along a birth certificate, passport, or government-issued ID card.
In the New York City area, the TSA has opened additional enrollment centers to keep up with the demand during this busy summer travel season. Applicants can apply online three weeks prior to the following dates to make an appointment at these facilities:
- July 11-29: The United Airlines Storefront at New York’s Penn Station
