Quirky Hotel Packages

In these tough economic times, hotels are getting increasingly creative trying to win your business. Here are a few packages that extend beyond the ordinary.
What a croc: Take a walk on the wild side with an excursion to the Florida Everglades, offered by the upscale Fairmont Turnberry Isle Resort near Miami. Get up close and personal with alligators and manatees. Lunch and a naturalist guide, as well as a donation to the Everglades Restoration Fund, are included in the “NaviGator Package.” Rates start at $568 a night for a room at this famed golf resort with private beach.

Livin’ in Beverly Hills: This package offers luxury accommodations at the Four Seasons Hotel, with complimentary valet parking of an almost-free luxury car. Choices include a Mercedes, Porsche or BMW, perfect rides for tooling down nearby Rodeo Drive and the beach. Rates start at $495 a night. The car rental is included; insurance and gas are not.

High on the hog: Spend two nights at the Hard Rock Hotel in San Diego and get a Harley-Davidson motorcycle rental for each day booked. Package includes Harley goodies, breakfast credit and VIP access to Hard Rock’s nightclubs. Rates start at $289 a night.

LA ink: What’s a trip to LA’s Venice Beach without a tattoo? Get a lasting souvenir with a $475-a-night package at the Hotel Erwin.That includes a $100 credit toward the tat, and a bottle of tequila to numb the pain. And if you agree to sport a “I Heart Hotel Erwin” tattoo, you get a $500 bonus.

A helping hand: Those wanting to help rebuild New Orleans are being offered a hand from the New Orleans Marriott on Canal Street.
The hotel is offering volunteers a rate of $84 a night. That rate is for groups, such as religious and school groups, that have their plans in place. Other groups that do not have set plans can pay an extra $25-$50 per person (depending upon whether the group is nonprofit or corporate) for a hotel service that will refer them to volunteer organizations.
