The U.S. State Department is announcing that beginning Jan. 1, 2016, it will no longer insert 24-page supplements into passports.

It says that the change was made to “enhance the security of the passport and to abide by international passport standards,” CNN reports.

While requests for the 24-page inserts may be made until Dec. 31, applicants within the U.S. will be able to apply for 28- or 52-page passports at the start of the New Year.

The extra inserts are meant to provide passport-holders with additional space for stamps, and are often viewed as a status symbol representing frequent international travel.
