Hi Val,

I’m over 40 and under 60, looking to travel abroad. Which single tours do you recommend?

Dina

Hi Dina,

You don’t always need a travel buddy; going solo is such a rewarding way to see the world.

Not knowing your particular interests, it would be hard to pinpoint specific tours for you to take. However, here’s some advice about taking a solo tour.

Make sure you book with a tour operator that waives the single supplement. This charge is often the price you would pay for a second traveler or at least slightly reduced. Overseas Adventure Travel, for example, doesn’t tack on this sort of fee for its nearly 50 tours.

How about a cruise? River cruise line Uniworld is waiving or reducing the extra charge for solo passengers on 30 itineraries departing in 2017. This includes the Classic Christmas Markets, Enchanting Danube, and the Gems of Northern Italy experiences.

You may also consider looking at tours that are solely for the solo set. Intrepid Travel – which says that more than half of its passengers go it alone – has chosen three of its most popular trips to be booked exclusively by single guests. This includes packages for India, Colombia, and Morocco.

Whatever you choose, have a great time!
