Passports Required Everywhere
The final phase of the Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative is now in effect, focusing on land and sea borders.
All U.S. citizens planning to travel to Canada, the Caribbean or Mexico, must now present passports or passport cards in order to return home from these neighboring countries through land and sea borders.
As part of the first initiative, all travelers flying into the U.S. have been required to show a passport.
The U.S. Virgin Islands remains the only destination that does not require a passport for U.S. citizens upon re-entering the mainland.
