Southwest Adds Flights

Just when some companies are cutting down on their flights, Southwest Airlines plans to add more, but at a cost.

Nine round trip flights will be added to its schedule. But for each flight scheduled between Nov. 2 and Jan. 9, fares will increase by $5 to $10 - not the airline's first price hike.

Last month, Southwest added new nonstop flights between Denver and Portland, Indianapolis and Las Vegas and beginning Aug. 23 it will add one daily nonstop between Denver and San Antonio.

Southwest will eliminate 31 flights from its existing schedule and add 40, according to the Wall Street Journal. The airline's passenger count in the first quarter of 2008 increased by 7.9% to 24.7 million passengers, according to Department of Transportation statistics.
