Mexico Delays Cruise Tax
Mexico's Ministry of Tourism planned to begin taxing each cruise passenger $5 who visited the country's ports this summer.
But after a decree signed by Mexican President Felipe Calderon in late June, the tax has been postponed until Oct. 1, 2008, Travel Weekly reports.
While the Florida-Caribbean Cruise Association and Mexican ports oppose the tax, its supporters argue it will generate about $30 million a year, most of which will go toward the municipalities with cruise ports.
