Cuba Travel Fines Blocked

A new Florida law that would force travel agencies to put up a $250,000 state bond for all booked tours to Cuba has been temporarily blocked.

A federal judge made the decision July 1, according to the Associated Press. Attorneys for the companies argued in Miami court that the measure is unconstitutional and it could force their clients out of business.

Other travel agencies would pay $25,000.

Republican State Rep. David Rivera sponsored the measure, which he wants to use to cut down on travel fraud, provide homeland security and deny any contribution to the government of Raul Castro.

The next hearing will take place July 11.
