Surfing The Sky

You may soon see more laptops onboard aircraft.

Next month, Gogo, a wireless system, may become accessible to airplane passengers who fly across the U.S. with Wi-Fi-enabled laptops and cell phones, according to the Wall Street Journal.

The first planes to use the system will be American's Boeing 767s that fly New York to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Miami. Later this year, Gogo should become available on all Virgin America routes.

The service will cost a flat fee of $12.95 for flights of three hours or longer, and $9.95 for shorter trips. Gogo, a data only system, doesn't allow online voice conversations, but other Internet services will be available, such as surfing the Web, Instant Messaging and e-mail use.
