Travelers looking for more alternatives to gas guzzling vehicles will find more options at car rental companies that have increased their stock of Toyota, Mazda, Hyundai and Kia hybrids.

A small number of gasoline-electric hybrids are also available at airport locations. According to Business Week, Hertz recently purchased 3,400 Toyota Prius models to add to its "Green Collection.”

Enterprise Rent-a-Car, which owns the Alamo and National brands, says it has about 4,000 hybrids. The Avis Budget Group also offers these cars and other fuel-efficient vehicles.

Some local businesses have Neighborhood Electric Vehicles, or low-speed electric cars, that can’t exceed 25 MPH.

Customers traveling with luggage or families may still need SUVs but rental companies are providing more options.
