European Fares To Increase
Europeans are also feeling the pinch of soaring fuel costs. Germany's two biggest airlines, Lufthansa and Air Berlin, announced that they, too, will increase passenger fuel surcharges because of oil prices.
Lufthansa said the cost of domestic German and European routes would increase from 21 euros ($32.66) to 24 euros ($37.32) per flight, according to the Associated Press. The surcharge on long routes will go up from 82 euros ($127.53) per flight to 92 euros ($143.09).
The prices of Air Berlin, Lufthansa's biggest German rival, will rise from 22 euros ($34.22) to 25 euros ($38.88), and from 85 euros ($132.20) to 95 euros ($147.75) for long flights.
Both airlines will apply the fare changes as of June 16.
