Budget NYC Hotels To Come

The Garment District will soon turn into a lodging district. A number of developers have projects in the works to build small budget hotels in a city known for soaring rates.

This Manhattan neighborhood, bounded by 34th and 42nd Streets and Fifth and Ninth Avenues, is known for its factories and showrooms. According to the June 18 New York Times, recent zoning changes have allowed more residential and commercial construction to take place there. At least a dozen hotels are under construction or being planned.

Many of the hotels will have brand names that travelers know, such as Hampton Inn, Hilton Garden Inn and Holiday Inn Express.

Most of the ones going up in this area will average at about $250 a night. The area will likely draw tourists after the planned expansion of The Javits Center and the extension of the No. 7 subway line to the far West Side.
