There’s nothing quite like having a Pope visit the U.S.

In a historic visit, Pope Francis is touring New York City, Washington, D.C., and Philadelphia,  through Sept. 27.

Plenty of precautions are being taken while the Pontiff is in town, and it’s expected that the visit will have quite an impact on the communities he’s stopping in. That includes economic boosts from tourists, in addition to traffic problems, road closures, and even restaurant overcrowding.

Dr. Kurt Stahura, Dean of Niagara University’s College of Hospitality and Tourism Management, has these tips.

  1. Public transportation is the best option because of road closures and gridlock conditions, but do expect delays.
  2. Leave early and bring photo ID if you’re one of the lucky people with tickets to a papal event, but expect to wait in line with thousands of other worshippers.
  3. For those planning to park near a city and then take public transportation, some parking venues may offer discounted parking. Search each city’s best known parking facilities to find the least expensive and best situated.
  4. Be wary of websites like Craigslist proffering tickets to papal events at exorbitant prices or even ones of the counterfeit variety.
