A special food tour in Mexico – where there’s a lot of talk about the end of the world – ensures doomsday travelers will not go out hungry. NY1′s Valarie D’Elia filed the following report.

Call it Maya 2K, the hype equivalent to Y2k, when the Mayan Calendar enters a new cycle on December 21.

“It’s hard to say that it’s going to be the end of the world because Mayan people are not prophets. Our Mayan people believe, a new generation is coming but it’s more of a change in conscience,” said Maya Tour Guide Gener Vallejos Uicab.

A change in consciousness doesn’t have quite the marketing zing as the end of the world, so I cut through the tourism gimmicks and on a media visit found one very authentic tour to mark the occasion.

Tia Stephanie Tours takes an intimate group to experience the culture of the Maya through the food of the Yucatan Peninsula.

In the company of prominent chefs, you will go to market for a flavor of the area and attend a buzzy food festival.

Several experts at a family expo in Manhattan recently shared their opinions on good ages to take trips with children. NY1′s Valarie D’Elia filed this report.

If it weren’t for some vintage photographs, I honestly wouldn’t be able to remember much about my early travels. So it got me thinking. Just how old should kids be to travel?

I posed this question to the experts at a family travel expo in Manhattan recently. When it comes to flying, my parents had the right idea. They kept me far from the fuselage until I was three.

“The most difficult time to fly is just when they start to walk because that whole “sit in your seat until the pilot says otherwise” does not compute. 9 months to about 2 years is a very difficult travel time,” said Joyce Shulman, the CEO ofMacaroni Kid.

Some modern day moms suggest that five years old is a good age to take children on cruises.

“The issue is that many of the cruises don’t offer any kind of child care for children under three,” Shulman said.

Road trips are easiest when kids turn two. At that age, by law, the car seat can turn around.

“You can reach back and hand them something and they are facing you. It’s a [much] different perspective,” said Ryan Sanders of fatherhood.org.

So how old should kids be for trips to theme parks?

“Destination theme parks, no less than five, for many reasons. The investment, will they remember and they can’t get on a lot of the rides,” said Carol Cain ofnycitymama.com.

What is the optimum age for a happy camper?

“A baby that sleeps through the night or a baby that can actually walk but understands that they can’t leave the tent to explore,” Cain said.

And how about a trip to Europe?

“When are those memories going to start forming? [I say] 7 or 8 for Europe,” Shulman said.

While I might not remember my early trips, I’ve managed to make a living bragging about them.

The biggest music festival in Canada takes place this summer in Quebec, and there are festival packages available that offer a pass per reservation. NY1′s Valarie D’Elia filed the following report.

Add some rhythm to the summer vacation by heading north of the border to Canada’s most beloved music festival.

For 11 days in July, the ancient walls surrounding Quebec City will reverberate with the music of hundreds of performers for the 45th annual Quebec Summer Festival, taking place on a variety of outdoor and indoor stages.

True to form, the festival is lining up top international stars and legends of rock n’ roll along with the best of world music, indie rock and folk.

The very first night of the festival, July 5, debuts with a tribute to the city’s francophone flavor, with everything performed in French.

Some of the top acts come from America, with a July 9 appearance by Bon Jovi after an extended absence.

On July 12, the legendary rock band Aerosmith will rock the house, while singer-songwriter Sarah McLachlan makes an appearance on July 13.
