The holiday season is already hectic, but throw in some travel and things can just get a bit more complicated.

Fortunately, Hilton Chicago O’Hare manager Michael McGilligan and Phil Sylvester of World Nomads are offering up some tips that you might not have thought of for easy winter and holiday travel.

With winter comes the threat of snowstorms, so if you’re faced with it while at the airport, McGilligan advises to stand near the gate agent to see what he or she is telling the flight crew. For those facing a cancelled flight, call a hotel, and then see when you can rebooked to get to your destination.

He also says that talking to the flight crew might give way to finding which best day spas, fitness centers, and quiet spots are best.

Holiday travel is often associated with crowds, which are a breeding ground for pickpockets. Sylvester says that prior to a trip, you should empty your wallet of any items – think: business cards, rewards program membership cards, etc. – that could be used to steal your identity. Men should carry wallets in their front pocket, preferably with a rubber band to prevent it from slipping out easily.

Sylvester points out that you should avoid traveling at peak times, which are usually between 4 p.m. and 8 p.m. on Fridays.
