If you still hope to find affordable stays in Beijing by Aug. 8, 2008 for the Summer Olympics, you still can, TravMedia.com reports.

Deals can be found during the first week of the games at such prices as $104 a night at the Super 8 Hotel Beijing Baihua or $243 a night at the Shangdi Holiday Inn.

Lately, the city has been undergoing construction and transformations. New buildings include the Olympic stadium, which resembles a bird’s nest, a swimming venue built of bubbles and black office towers that lean toward each other.

Although some see the changes to Beijing’s traditional character as a sign of economic progress, others lament the traditional aspect of the city is getting clouded by the ultra-modern architecture.
