MTA fares are finally getting a 21st century upgrade.
The MTA is announcing that by the end of the summer, Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North commuters will be able to purchase their tickets via a smartphone app called MTA eTix.
In addition to buying tickets, riders can also check fares and get refunds.
The Wall Street Journal reports that the app is already available on Metro-North’s Hudson line and the LIRR’s Port Washington branch.
