Alaska Airlines, which acquired Virgin America airlines last year, is announcing its single largest new markets route expansion with new flights from San Francisco International Airport and Mineta San Jose International Airport.

SFO will add on 10 new routes including daily service to Philadelphia. Other routes include Kona, Hawaii; Indianapolis, Baltimore, Albuquerque, Kansas City and Mexico City.

Mineta San Jose gets a daily flight to Austin and Tucson and four daily flights to Los Angeles. The SFO to Philly route starts in August with the other additions rolling out through to December. The flight to Mexico City is currently awaiting international approvals and the date of inauguration will be announced soon.

Alaska Airlines and Virgin America are currently operated as separate entities. Alaska’s CEO Brad Tilden has told USA Today that he is considering keeping the Virgin America brand rather than dissolving it as is usually the case when an airline is acquired, as it has high recognition value.

Virgin America has won numerous awards for customer service and is largely considered a strong competitor for the traveler pleasing perks that domestic flyers have long admired on JetBlue flights.
The new flights on the roster include seven operated by Virgin America and two by Alaska Airlines. The flights from San Jose will all be operated by Alaska Airlines.
